DIY Valentine’s Day Craft: Heart Garlands

Hello there! Today I’m going to be sharing with you guys two DIY heart shaped garlands that I made this morning. To make both of the garlands, it only takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on how much detail you add to them. This makes this a great last-minute decor piece if plans come up unexpected, or even if you just want to make some easy and quick crafts with your loved ones. These are super easy and for pretty much any age, and the best part is that they’re totally customize-able, so you can really make it your own style. Enjoy-

Garland #1:

You”ll need:

  • Paper cut in strips about 1″ wide (Preferably 2 or more colors)
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Hole puncher
  • Twine or string
  • Command hooks (Optional)

Start by cutting colored paper of your choice in strips 1″ thick. I did pink and white, but you can do any colors that you’d like. Take one strip of the paper, and fold it in half. That will be the point of your heart. Then curl the top two ends towards each other, and staple where they meet. You should now have one heart by itself, which is the white one in the picture shown. The next heart you fold the strip in half like before, but then you stick the folded piece through the other heart, then make the curves and staple. That how they’re hooked together. It sounds more complicated than it is. Just experiment, and you’ll figure it out.

Continue that process until you get the desired length that you’d like. You can customize this as much as you’d like. Things like washi tape, glitter, sharpie, stickers, the colors, etc. are all optional. The last thing is to hole punch the two ends, tie a string on it, and hang it up!

Garland #2:

You’ll need:

  • 5 heart templates found here. I saved 5 copies separately, then printed 3 pink and 2 white, at size 3.5×5.  (Or you can just cut out by hand.)
  • Twine or string
  • Hole Puncher
  • Scissors
  • Command hooks (Optional)

Start by cutting out the heart shape templates, or cutting out hearts on your own. Then hole punch the two outer edges of the hearts, and then insert the twine through it. I just weaved all the hearts through, then cut and tied off the twine on both ends, and then once I hung it evenly spaced the hearts.

There’s a few different ways you could’ve hung it, I just did what came to mind and made since at the time. I kept my hearts plain, but you could draw on them with sharpies or coloring utensils, paint them, use washi tape or glitter, etc. Again, it’s really up to you how you decorate it. I decided just to leave both of mine blank.
